Purpose and Objectives
US Friends of Latymer Council's purpose is to connect past students and friends of the School and to raise money to fund future means-tested scholarships.
The Council aims to:
organize social events for alumni to meet and socialize
raise funds which will provide future means-tested scholarships for bright students who need financial assistance to attend Latymer
The US Friends have already funded three Sixth Form scholars, with a fourth currently in the Sixth Form, and hope to raise the money to fund others.
When Edward Latymer founded the School in 1624, he did it specifically to provide education to the poor.
In the "good old days" when the UK Government supported Direct Grant schools approximately 85% of Latymer students received a grant and attended the School for free. Following the end of that program in the 1970s, the School had to fund itself and therefore leaned increasingly towards recruiting fee paying students.
In 2000 there were only 3 grant aided students at Latymer. In September 2019, nearly 200 students in the School will be in receipt of a bursary at Latymer.
